Dear Neal,

Elmer Bukey passed on your  contact information to me and I hope you don’t mind my contacting you  directly.  Elmer showed me the great picture of the flag raising in Liuzhou (Liuchow).  Actually, our group (Remembering Shared Honor) is working with Liuzhou right now to set up a memorial and museum to Chinese and American cooperation there during the war.  They would love to have a full, high resolution scan of this photo, any chance that you could donate one to them?  Any other photos of Liuzhou?

I am helping set up a CBI photo exhibit which will show in Chengdu (Sichuan province) and Kunming (Yunnan province) at the end of May, 2005.  Any interesting photos that you might lend for the show?   Usually, the photo will be displayed with your name as collector if the photo is from the U.S. Govt. or other commercial source, but with the photographer name if it was taken by a private individual.  We have an agreement with the display organizer that the display photos cannot be copied or handed out, but who knows what happens in the middle on the night when we are not around, so I guess this might  be a consideration for you.

I looked at your website, it is terrific, thanks for sharing with all of us!

Regards,
Patrick  Lucas
Beijing

Pat,

The pictures are great!  It is still hard to believe that my father's history and photos have gone full circle, returning after 60 years.  "Remembering Shared Honor" is so fitting. It gives me chills when I look at the photos!

A citizen of Chengdu is viewing my father's sections "John J. Gardner's Lens to History"

It was most touching to see the older gentlemen taking such interest in certain photos!

The exhibition moves right to left.   There were eight photos in my father's section.

I certainly feel honored as I know my father would have, too.    Thanks again for including him in the exhibition.

best wishes,

Neal

Dear Neal,

Thank you for being so generous.....  otherwise it never could have happened!  Sharing this history, like you have, will keep it alive.  I was thrilled to have you and your father's pictures.  Hopefully we might get another chance for an exhibit soon, maybe very soon.... If you have any more photos that you would be willing to share, please let me know.
